PRE 4B | Pre-Symposium: IDEA, Section 504, and the Student Receiving FAPE at Home (Room Cortez CD)

With the number of students seeking homebound instruction on the rise, schools need to be aware of the unique legal challenges of serving students in this very restrictive setting. Educators Cynthia Vines and Linda Silver and school attorney Dave Richards will review and analyze IDEA and Section 504 requirements for serving these students, including the role of doctors in homebound decisions, how to individualize appropriate services, and steps to ensure implementation of the student’s IEP or 504 plan. You’ll also learn how to plan for students’ reentry to school and gain insights about the evolving role of technology in serving these students. Finally, you’ll get tips on handling a variety of home-instruction issues, such as extracurricular activities.
