Liquid Waste Management to Address Stability and Operational Concerns in Landfills (Room 210)

Dealing with liquids associated with solid waste management is one of the biggest and most expensive challenges for a landfill manager. Most people in the industry are familiar with the liquid that seeps from the bottom of a landfill (i.e., leachate). However, this session will discuss liquids remaining in the waste mass due to various waste compositions (i.e., wet waste). This session will discuss specifically the stability and operational concerns associated with disposing of these wet waste types. Major players in the waste arena will be on hand to discuss how they are addressing these types of issues as they arise and what they foresee in the future for managing these waste types. Also, this session will look at some of the benefits of intentionally adding liquid to the waste via leachate recirculation, and some of additional design aspects that should be considered in doing so.
