2:35 PM - 3:35 PM

Tracks: Federal Identity Forum, Track C - Technology Advancement and Strategies

The outputs of biometric technologies employed by a government have deep and lasting impacts on the quality of life for all citizens. It is critical that such technologies be evaluated for accuracy and reliability before entrusting them to aid in crucial enforcement decisions. Certification programs help maintain baseline performance and assist in acquisitions, while evaluations push technology providers to strive for extra performance and take chances with new algorithms, advancing the state-of-the-art of the industry. Such assessments of biometric technologies are not trivial, and require great amounts of time, attention to detail, and data. In this session, producers of biometric technology evaluations and certifications will provide a behind-the-scenes look at their programs, and discuss what they see as their importance in the biometric industry. We will also hear from consumers and participants of these programs, to learn how they prepare, and how these tests have helped shape their products.
