Mental health conditions are having a huge impact on employers’ bottom lines, costing them, by some estimates, more than $100 billion a year in medical costs, lower productivity, absenteeism and disability. In response, many employers have started to make mental well-being a top priority, raising awareness about the issue in the workplace and taking concrete steps to remove the stigma surrounding it. Yet despite these efforts, most experts agree much more needs to be done. This panel will discuss the business case for addressing the challenges associated with mental health, the state-of-the-art resources and tools now available to employers, and proven workplace practices that can make a difference.
