Alternative Transport Destinations for Your Lowest Acuity Patients (Room Chesapeake DEF)

The reverse specialty center is another tool in the triad of “right place, in the right time, and for the right care”. Since the creation of formal EMS systems and agencies, the identification of special emergencies and the need for regionalization of care drove the rise of specialty referral centers (SRC) as definitive destinations for time-dependent conditions. This first started with trauma systems, then the management of ST-elevation myocardial infarction and stroke centers. But on the other end of the spectrum lies a cohort of patients with low acuity disease or injury. The speakers will discuss use of the SRC model to invoke “reverse specialty centers” (RSC), whereby traditional EMS can choose alternative transport destinations besides hospital or freestanding EDs for non-time–dependent conditions. We have the five "rights" of medication administration, but what about the three "rights" of patient destination selection?
