2017 AFCEA Defensive Cyber Operations Symposium

Operate Theater - DODIN Operations (Room Halls F and Swing)

Approved for 1 CompTIA CEU:  A+ and Network+

As per DOD's Joint Publication 3-12, Department of Defense Information Networks (DODIN) operations are actions taken to design, build, configure, secure, operate, maintain, and sustain DOD communications systems and networks in a way that creates and preserves data availability, integrity, confidentiality, as well as user/entity authentication and non-repudiation.  These include proactive actions which address the entire DODIN, including configuration control and patching.  Information Assurance (IA) measures and user training, physical security and secure architecture design, operation of host-based security systems and firewalls, and encryption of data.  Although many DODIN operations activities are regularly scheduled events, they should not be considered routine or unimportant, since their aggregate effect establishes the security framework on which all DOD missions ultimately depend.

DISA conducts Department of Defense Information Networks (DODIN) operations and defensive cyber operations (DCO) of DISA's enterprise infrastructure and services for the Department of Defense in support of global warfighters.  The DODIN is a global infrastructure of Department of Defense (DOD) systems carrying DOD, national security, and related intelligence community information.  This panel will focus on the DODIN operations conducted by DISA in direct support to joint warfighters, national level leaders, and other mission and coalition partners across the full spectrum of operations.

Learning objectives of the panel:

Describe how DISA handles DODIN Operations today globally.

Understand how DISA supports DODIN Operations in support of Geographic Combatant Command (DISA-PAC).

Understand how DISA supports DODIN Operations in support of a Unified Combatant Command (DISA-SOCOM).

Understand how DISA supports mission partners with computing services and environments.  (DISA- ECOSYSTEM).
