Captain Smyth is the Commander, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Special Operations Command (SOCOM) Field Office, at MacDill AFB, Florida. She previously served as the Commanding Officer for Information Warfare Training Command, San Diego, California (IWTC SD). She entered the Navy as an Intelligence Officer in 1994 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program at the College of the Holy Cross. In 2008, she received her master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. Captain Smyth’s sea duty and operational assignments include collection manager for Carrier Air Wing TWO from December 1998 to December 2000, deploying on the USS CONSTELLATION to the Persian Gulf. She also served in Bahrain at Commander U.S. Naval Forces Central Command / U.S. FIFTH Fleet from 2001-2002, working first as the primary regional naval analyst and then supporting planning and initial execution of OPERATION Enduring Freedom. She returned to Bahrain as an Individual Augmentee in support of OPERATION Iraqi Freedom in 2003. As the Assistant Intelligence Officer to Carrier Strike Group ELEVEN on the USS NIMITZ from April 2005 to August 2007, she conducted two deployments to the Pacific and Central Command theaters, executing combat operations in support of OPERATION Enduring and then Iraqi Freedom as well as maritime security operations in the Persian Gulf. She also served as the Deputy Director for the Intelligence Department at U.S. Fleet Cyber Command / U.S. TENTH Fleet from February 2010 to November 2011.
