World Tea Expo 2017

Rooibos, A Uniquely South African Story (Room N237)

14 Jun 17
10:15 AM - 11:15 AM

Tracks: Non Tea - Botanicals

The indigenous shrub-like Rooibos plant with its thin, needle-like leaves (Aspalathus linearis) only grows in the craggy Cederberg area of South Africa, nowhere else in the world – a premise that the speaker will explore from a geological and botanical perspective.

Adding to that he will look at the history of tea drinking in South Africa, the key players that put Rooibos on the map and discuss the phenomenal growth of the Rooibos industry, from humble beginnings to a successful, international enterprise.

The speaker will analyse the reasons for its success and explore future opportunities for commercial growth.

A uniquely South African story that has only just begun.
