George Papaioanou is Vice President & General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas, Inc. (“MHPS”) with responsibility for all legal aspects within MHPS. Mr. Papaioanou earned a Bachelor of Science from the United States Naval Academy, a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Juris Doctor from Temple University. He is licensed to practice law in Georgia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey and is an Authorized House Counsel in Florida. He is also a licensed Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering in Pennsylvania. After receiving a commission in the U. S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps, he worked primarily with federal government contracting for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command. In 1991, he joined the law firm of Smith, Currie & Hancock focusing on construction disputes, arbitration and litigation. He is co-author of the 1994 and 1995 Construction Law Update, Midwest Region Chapter and author of the chapter entitled “Amending A101/Cma: Standard Form of Agreement Between Owner and Contractor (Owner)” in Alternative Clauses to Standard Construction Contracts. In 1997 he started focusing on the power generation industry working on turnkey EPC contracts for numerous power plant projects for Raytheon Engineers & Constructors, Inc. in the United States, Europe and Asia. He joined MHPS in 2000 and began supporting the commercial sales of power generation equipment and maintenance services in the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. He has been actively engaged in corporate governance matters, implementing corporate policies and providing litigation management and dispute resolution strategy for MHPS. George was promoted to his current position in January 2013 and became Corporate Secretary in October 2016.
