Jim May is in the United States Attorney's Office for the District of South Carolina where he is the Senior Litigation Counsel. During his tenure as an AUSA he has been the lead and coordinating attorney for Operation Brace Yourself, a national case that involved cases in 20 Federal Districts and the DOJ Strike Force. Jim received the FBI Director's Award and the HHS OIG Award for the investigation. In addition Jim also was the lead attorney for the investigation into the former Fortune 500 Company SCANA and its executives regarding the company's fraud related to Securities and Regulatory filings concerning the construction of two nuclear power plants. The CEO and COO pleaded guilty and 4 billion dollars in ratepayer relief was negotiated. Jim coordinated a wide range of investigations and tried numerous cases to a jury verdict, including complex healthcare fraud, racketeering, drug trafficking, securities fraud, tax fraud, bank robbery, and the first human trafficking trial in the state of South Carolina. Before joining the US Attorney's Office was a county public defender and obtained not guilty verdicts on charges including murder, drug trafficking, attempted murder, firearms possession, criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, and dog fighting.
