Dr. SooHoo received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rochester, a MS in Electrical Engineering from the George Washington University, and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Southern California. In his 30+ years at Cedars-Sinai, he held positions as a biomedical engineer and research scientist before moving into various positions in Information Technology, including 8 years as the Chief Security Officer. He is currently the director of the Research Informatics and Scientific Computing Core that provides scientific computing and informatics support for the Cedars-Sinai research community. Dr. SooHoo is involved in a number of projects involving the development of distributed clinical research databases, natural language processing, informatics for precision medicine, and a National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) effort to develop a system using federated identities to facilitate access to electronic health records at independent healthcare facilities.
