Kent Gerlach, is nationally recognized for his contributions, research, and publications on paraeducator issues (employment, training and supervision),. He has presented professional development for teachers, paraeducators, and administrators throughout the United States. He co-authored the texts “Supervising Paraeducators in Educational Settings” and “Paraeducators in the Schools,” published by Pro-ed, Austin, Texas, and “Let’s Team Up:” a Checklist for Teachers, Paraeducators and Principals, published by NPR, Inc. Kent is Professor Emeritus at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington and has held faculty appointments at the University of Washington, University of Texas, and Augustana University. Kent serves as a consultant with Pacific Training Associates (Seattle, Washington), Comprehensive School Solution (Naples Florida), and Scenario Learning, (Cincinnati, Ohio) and OSPI (Olympia Washington). Kent is the recipient of the PLU Faculty Achievement and Teaching Excellence Award.. Kent has served as consultant to several national organizations including Council for Exceptional Children, the National Education Association, the IDEA Partnerships (Washington DC., the U.S. Department of Education, and the National State Directors of Special Education. Currently he serves on the Editorial Boards of the Council for Exceptional Children (Division of Autism and Developmental Disabilities, and the CEC Teacher Education Division, Kent continues to be an advocate for educational policy and standards concerning paraeducators and their supervision.
