Markku Santala received his BS degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts in 1985. He received his PhD in Ocean Engineering in the MIT-Woods Hole Joint Program in 1991. Markku spent 15 years at ExxonMobil Upstream Research in Houston primarily as a metocean specialist supplying criteria for projects worldwide. While at ExxonMobil he also worked assisting with riser analyses for a year, spent two years in the Marine Hydrodynamics group, and spent a year in the Arctic Technology group. Markku joined the Chevron Energy Technology Company (ETC) in January 2007 as a metocean specialist. He has recently been involved in Chevron’s technology development program and starting in January 2015 became the Anchors, Moorings and Risers Team Manager at ETC.
