Three years ago, a general presentation about a wind vane alignment tool was performed at the AWEA O&M conference. In the years since, this tool has been used to align nacelle wind vanes on hundreds of wind turbines. The energy impact of the aligned turbines has been independently validated by clients as well as a research center. This presentation will explore the results of these independent analyses and the impacts (energy, fatigue) for these turbines and the wind industry. In brief, it has been found that a significant number of wind turbines are poorly aligned. Additionally, we understand this to be the only time these results have been obtained independently of the service provider.
