Wind Project O&M and Safety Conference 2019

OSHA’s New Crane Operator Requirements (Room Pavilion 3)

The Wind Industry continues to innovate with larger and heavier wind turbine models being installed.  As the turbine models continue to increase in size, so too are the cranes (required to install them) getting larger and larger.  It is not uncommon for wind farms to be built with cranes that are 2-3 times the size of the ones utilized just ten years earlier.  This session will give an overview of these cranes, the hazards associated with crane work on wind farms, and safe crane management techniques.
