The Animal Trainers Role in Veterinary Behavior (Room CDE)

A reward-based animal trainer can be a valuable veterinary care team member. Offering onsite classes help puppies and dogs form positive associations with the veterinary hospital. Puppy classes also allow early recognition and prevention of many problem behaviors. Qualified trainers can work in concert with veterinarians to design behavior modification treatment and management plans for veterinary patients. It is also important for trainers to be able to recognize when veterinary intervention should be recommended to training clients. A trainer in partnership with a veterinary hospital enhances services the hospital can provide for their veterinary clients and offers the trainer a new client base. Veterinary patients can greatly benefit from the team approach for their physical and emotional wellbeing.
