66 - Dow Robotics Leading the Path to “Hazard Elimination” (Room 25A)

Every year, 2.1 million workers enter a confined space – largely to perform routine work. Dow Chemical Co.’s vision of creating world-leading operations performance technology aims to take employees out of harm’s way by eliminating, rather than managing, the potential for injury. Dow’s robotics program is designed to focus on three high-risk categories: confined space entry, elevated work and industrial cleaning of process equipment. To date, robotics have made a significant reduction in confined space entries and elevated work by eliminating more than 1,000 high-risk jobs. The key to technology development is to reshape and evolve while leveraging industry expertise so individuals can be removed from high-risk work.
