In 2014, Webcor Builders, a large commercial construction contractor, began a journey to improve worker safety by focusing on safety culture. Efforts began with a comprehensive safety culture assessment that revealed both strengths and opportunities. Since then, the company has made a number changes geared toward cultivating an “Actively Caring” culture. The results have exceeded everyone’s expectations: A follow-up employee survey revealed significant improvements in the company’s safety culture. These improvements correspond to consistent decline in incident rates. In this session, we’ll explore the company’s five-year journey, sharing both the successes and the bumps encountered along the road.
