This session will focus on issues related to testing for drug and alcohol use. We will focus on the ALLIANCE’s Model Substance Abuse Policy and Program for JATCs. We will consider: who we test and under what circumstances; what drugs we test for; what testing procedures we use; what safeguards we put in place to protect worker dignity and privacy rights; and the consequences of testing positive. We will also discuss legal issues related to testing and current issues, including (1) the legalization of medical and recreational marijuana; and, (2) problems being encountered with testing, such as on-site “quick” tests, and how to deal with them.
