The State of the IoT in SCTE•ISBE Standards (Room B312)

As operators continue to widen their onboarding and support of technologies representing the Internet of Things -- from door locks to thermostats to lighting -- the challenge is to smoothly install, integrate and operate such devices within existing service bundles. Alpha Technologies’ Tim Johnson kicks off this session with a paper addressing how operators are approaching IoT, including use cases for home monitoring, connected healthcare and Smart Cities, as well as technical factors to consider, including protocols and standards, security threats, and operational practices. Then, Cox’s Kinney Bacon and Minim’s Brent Levetan provide an overview of the SCTE•ISBE Internet of Things Working Group, with both accomplishments to date and future objectives, including documenting healthcare and security operational practices, among others.
