Risk mitigation on construction projects should never be an afterthought. Properly planned and proactively addressed risk can be diminished to a point where going in the parties not only understand their roles and the overall project objectives, but also feel comfortable enough that they bear appropriate risk and are protected by agreed upon protocols for dealing with problems before they hinder progress.

This session will bring together construction experts from both sides of the aisle to address the legal and practical approaches to deal structuring, construction contracting, crisis management, communication procedures and insurance, and bonding coverages. The 2017 changes to the AIA A201 General Conditions will also be addressed so that conference participants can better understand the upcoming impacts that changes to insurance, technology and proof of financing will have on risk sharing.

Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the pre-construction, construction and post-construction checklists of best practices for risk mitigation with practical examples.
  • Understand the five most heavily negotiated contract provisions and how to manage risk through proper drafting.
  • Understand what the new changes to the General Conditions will mean for projects going forward by hearing from both owner and contractor experts.
