A Prehospital Approach to Refractory Ventricular Fibrillation (Room National Harbor 11)

20 Feb 19
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Tracks: Advanced Clinical Practice

a. Refractory ventricular fibrillation is a unique clinical entity requiring alternative treatment techniques. Some experts suggest that traditionally used treatment algorithms do not adequately address cases of refractory ventricular fibrillation. In this session, Dr. Cortez will provide a working definition of refractory ventricular, provide you with tips for its recognition in the prehospital setting, and unique prehospital approaches to treatment, including double sequential defibrillation and sympathetic blockade. Dr. Cortez will also present advanced treatment options such as early reperfusion therapy and the use of ECMO to save refractory VFib patients. You will walk away with an appreciation for this challenging subtype of cardiac arrest and care approaches you can easily implement in your emergency response system.
