67 - A Participatory Approach to Safety: Leadership Engagement and Development (Room 381A)

Deploying a two-fold approach, Honda of Canada Manufacturing’s top-level management and associates working in production are engaged and motivated to act as leaders for safety. In this session, you’ll learn how HCM has achieved significant risk reduction and a cultural shift – effectively developing the next generation of leaders with safety ingrained as part of the culture. You’ll gain insight into a 10-year journey in which efforts to align management and production engagement were instrumental in driving improvements. We’ll discuss the initial struggles, the approach used to engage production associates to volunteer and act as safety and ergonomic coaches for their peers, and how HCM maintains engagement and continues to advance its overall safety program.
