Federal Focus: Combatting Child Exploitation (Room 207 A/B)

12 Sep 17
9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Tracks: Federal Focus, Federal Identity Forum

The Department of Homeland Security is using identity management in a number of DHS initiatives some of which will be highlighted by the acting DHS Deputy Secretary Claire Grady in her keynote address and discussed in depth in a number of Federal ID sessions.  Because of this, we will focus this Session on a call to action to combat the difficult national and international battle against child exploitation.  Identifying victims of abuse and their perpetrators is a challenge for law enforcement.  Speakers will lay out the problems they face daily in finding the data on line, viewing abuse video and still imagery, isolating objects, faces and other items in the imagery which will give clues to help identify where and when the abuse took place and identifying the victims and perpetrators.  Topics will include raising awareness of the magnitude of the child exploitation problem, the need to foster innovation, creating a victim centric approach, leveraging data more efficiently, sharing data among the national and international law enforcement community and applying science and technology to combat child exploitation.  Speakers will include Immigration and Customs Homeland Security Investigations, National Institute of Standards and Technology and International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children.
