The Supreme Court recognized in Riley v. California, “Modern cell phones are not just another technological convenience. With all they contain and all they may reveal, cell phones hold for many Americans ‘the privacies of life.’” This presentation, for practicing attorneys, will review the ethics rules governing attorney communications, identify business practices that create risk for waiver of the attorney-client privilege, and provide practical tips for minimizing risk to attorneys and clients in this age of technology when most attorneys not only communicate, but also practice law “on the go” from their smartphone or tablet. Join Attorney Dianna D. Bowen as she reviews and analyzes the benefits, consequences, ABA Model Rules, opinions, and various scenarios associated with practicing law from your phone.
