A1 | Parental Participation Requirements Under the IDEA (Room Chantilly West)

23 Apr 18
10:15 AM - 11:30 AM

Tracks: Administration

Since the IDEA was initially enacted, family-school relationships have remained a core principle in the provision of services to children with disabilities. In this session, attorney Art Cernosia will provide an overview of the law and relevant judicial decisions related to parental involvement not only in IEP team meetings, but also in involvement throughout the special education process. Topics to be covered include parental participation in the IEP development and review process, rights of parents to observe their student’s evaluations and placements, rights to receive periodic progress reports, rights to receive IEP and other documents translated in their native language, and the responsibility in working with the school in a collaborative manner.
