PRE 2 | Pre-Symposium: Avoiding Abusive Disciplinary Practices in Schools by Incorporating Effective Evidence Based Behavioral Interventions (Room Coronado A)

22 Apr 18
9:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Tracks: Behavior

A common complaint among many educators and administrators has been the increased level of challenging behaviors they face from students, ranging from noncompliance to dangerous behaviors. This full-day symposium by behavior expert Dr. Joe Ryan reviews the underlying concepts of what makes behavioral interventions effective, as well as common pitfalls that can make interventions ineffective and sometimes even dangerous. This symposium will help educators and administrators be able to: 1) identify both effective and ineffective behavioral interventions; 2) identify target behaviors and the antecedents and consequences that influence these behaviors; and 3) use effective methods to safely manage aggressive students.
