I10 | The Present Status of Regular Interventions: Has the Mood Cooled on the Use of RTI? (Room Cortez CD)

24 Apr 18
3:00 PM - 4:15 PM

Tracks: IDEA

Since 2004, much attention and resources have been devoted to expanding regular education intervention programs. At the same time, tension has arisen between RTI implementation practices and the IDEA’s child find requirement, leading to adverse court cases and cautionary guidance letters from the U.S. Education Department. In this session, attorney Jose Martin will explore how the initial promise of RTI practices has appeared to slow in the face of questionable implementation practices, review the problem areas that have arisen across the country, and identify common-sense solutions and best practices. You will learn how to implement RTI practices while remaining compliant with the IDEA’s child find obligations and the need for meaningful parental participation in the intervention process.
