School health services, school nursing services, and chronically ill students present an increasing challenge for districts. Attorney Brandon Wright will focus on the role of the school nurse, based upon IDEA and Section 504 case law for students with high medical needs. He’ll cover their role in the evaluation process (including child find), the development of the IEP and related services, and meeting the students’ day-to-day needs. Learn situations in which a student’s needs may go beyond what the school nurse can or should do, as well as proactive and practical solutions for working with parents and medical providers. You’ll leave this session with an understanding of which health services must be provided for FAPE, which personnel should be involved, and how to respond to requests from families and medical providers.
