ACT Expo 2017

Focusing Freight on Efficiency

Building on the opening session, this panel will provide insight into the approaches fleets are taking on planning and procurement of technologies that will continue to drive fuel efficiency improvement. The future of EPA’s SmartWay Program, Phase 2 GHG rule and results from the DOE SuperTruck I and II programs will be a core focus here, together with fleet reporting and customer engagement on sustainability and carbon emissions. The discussion will provide perspective on how these ongoing efforts then connect to the longer-term evolution to truck platooning, automation and potentially driverless trucks. Higher truck costs; increased vertical integration of truck, engine, and powertrain components; and fewer options from OEMs are expected – but so too are increased fuel cost savings and GHG emission reductions. With implementation of the EPA Phase 2 trailer standards set to take effect in 2018, and the truck and engines standards in 2021, hear from industry leaders about what this all means when it comes to future equipment costs, options, operational savings, meeting near and long term sustainability goals, and increased customer engagement.
