Steve Larsen is director of procurement and fuel for Ruan Transportation Management Systems, a transportation company based in Des Moines, Iowa. Rated by Transport Topics as the #6 Dedicated Contract Carrier, #41 For-Hire Carrier, and #20 Logistics company, Ruan operates a fleet of 3,700 Class 8 tractors. Mr. Larson is responsible for approximately 50 million gallons of fuel purchases per year—including supplier relationships and price negotiation as well as fuel optimization and consumption. He also leads other non-fuel procurement initiatives (representing over $100 million in spend) as well as properties functions. Mr. Larson is leading a compressed natural gas fuel initiative for Ruan, representing a strategically important development impacting transportation fuel, and he oversees sustainability projects including Ruan participation in Smartway, CDP, and National Clean Fleets.
