OEM turbine and Independent Engineer design certifications are typically 20 years. However, with owner initiatives to reduce LCOE, most operators are targeting turbine life extension between 25 and 35 years. With some major components failing within 10 year of commercial operations, speakers in this session delve into the best way owner/operators model and understand the impact of extending turbine life beyond the original design certification and explore what OEM’s are doing to increase the design life of turbines. This session take a higher level look at current challenges that wind is facing on questions of extending wind farm lifetime, increasing production and repowering.
