08 Apr 19
1:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Tracks: Company Officer

This interactive, multimedia, evidence-based class addresses the most pressing decision-making issues facing fire officers today. The program focuses on decision-making skills for the company officer in the roles of responding to structure fires, leading the fire company, and preparing the fire company for safe operations in life-threatening situations. Three practical everyday decision-making processes are addressed: Fireground Operations at Structure Fires; Leadership, Motivation, Engagement, and Corrective Action; and Training and Coaching to Improve Firefighter Performance. Examples used center on decision making at emergency incidents, including structure fires (based on using the latest Underwriters Laboratories/National Institute of Standards and Technology and Don Abbott’s Mayday research); leadership, including motivation, engagement, and corrective action and discipline; and improving firefighter performance.
