Continuous Innovation is What Drives Smarter Utilities and Cities (Room 214B)

Consumer expectations are on the rise and utilities continue to face a wide range of emerging challenges such as DER integration, cybersecurity, and storm response. Utilities need a framework to solve problems and deploy new solutions while creating value and minimizing costs. Creative approaches like design thinking to identify problems, ideate solutions, prototype, test and iterate are being applied to create a safer and more reliable grid.

During this panel utilities will describe how they created a platform and support team to drive continuous innovation. The panel will discuss several high-profile use cases to improve reliability and safety for their customers including an update on the deployment of their battery-powered natural gas leak detector, their efforts to improve reliability for the New York City subway system, and their ongoing effort to identify and mitigate stray voltage incidents.
