Handheld Rapid DNA Screening and High-throughput DNA Sequencing to Support Identity Dominance (Room :Room 18-19)

The Department of Defense is heading up a program to develop scientific methods and validation protocols related to the use of High-throughput DNA Sequencing (HTS) of the human genome to support intelligence, law enforcement, personnel accounting and personnel recovery missions. The objective of this program is to help the DoD identify the more than 80,000 missing service members from World War II and Korea, and to provide the ability to provide greater forensic investigative value for challenging forensic DNA samples collected in DoD missions. This presentation will discuss the challenges, potential impacts, and future plans in this program.
