The SANS Institute has established VetSuccess to match skilled U.S. military veterans with today’s most compelling cybersecurity-related jobs. The program targets two critical national imperatives:

1) Filling important cybersecurity jobs: VetSuccess meets the needs of critical national infrastructure firms and other important companies as well as law enforcement and intelligence agencies for men and women with technical IT and cybersecurity skills and the capacity to continue learning.  Placing these professionals is essential to protecting the nation against increasingly sophisticated and damaging cyber attacks.

2) Enabling transitioning veterans to build meaningful and lasting careers in cybersecurity: VetSuccess helps transitioning veterans in three ways—all at no cost to the individual veteran:

Training and certification:  Veterans with IT skills and demonstrated technical aptitude are provided with the training and certifications they need to into the cybersecurity workforce. This is done via the SANS VetSuccess Academy, which includes two-to-three SANS courses and the associated GIAC certifications on a 100% scholarship basis.
Knowledge development:  Veterans with limited experience but interest in cybersecurity are provided a pathway into the field via free online training in networking, operating systems and systems administration.
Employer matching services:  For the veteran cyber warriors with extensive training and hands-on experience that are workforce-ready, SANS and our partners match them with employers that are hiring in cybersecurity. This is done via virtual events, innovative online platforms, and direct placement efforts.

This discussion will explore how VetSuccess identifies, assesses, trains, certifies, and connects transitioning veterans with employers that have invested in the careers of veterans, demonstrated technical cybersecurity leadership, and mentored veterans to help them develop their technical and professional skills.  Learn about the success of the VetSuccess program in 2015, and its’ current expansion in 2016 with Academies near Ft.
