This presentation will discuss the issues emergency responders face when petroleum products are released onto land or into water. Topics covered include understanding petroleum product properties, the behavior of petroleum when released such as oil formations, estimating the amount of petroleum on waters, and tactical considerations for dealing with petroleum product releases. The program will also discuss the implementation of sorbent and containment boom strategies and a demonstration of some of the equipment necessary to deploy this option. This course can be used towards hazmat related certification hours.
