Electronic Blasting Systems – Precision Blast Control in Action (Room Concorde A)

30 Jan 16
1:45 PM - 2:30 PM

Tracks: Blasters Training Seminar

Commercialized Electronic Blasting Systems (EBS) has been widely available to the explosives industry and its practitioners for over 15 years now. In this time, there have been many learnings on how best to model and apply precision millisecond initiation timing to enable the delivery of targeted blast results. The intent of this presentation is share EBS timing principles and applications in general surface quarrying and mining. Additionally, it will highlight several surface and underground blasting applications that can be best achieved without the constraints of non-electric initiation burning fronts, including surface segregation blasting, multiple layer blasting, through seam blasting and underground mass blasting. Evolving out of EBS technology, the emergence of Wireless Electronic Blasting Systems (WEBS) is quickly approaching, and a preview of this technology will be provided. The breakaway from initiation systems, traditionally and functionally reliant upon in-hole downlines and surface connections, offers solutions to numerous in-field handling issues and unlocks the possibilities to perform excavation and blast sequences previously only conceptualized.
