Where do we stand in the fight against identity theft? In 2012, there were reported losses of 24.7 billion related to this crime. Evey day in the mdeia there is another story regarding the unauthorized disclosure of personal identifying information whether by cyber breach or physical theft. Are the various strategies being utilized by private and government entities having any real effect on curbing this trend? This panel will examine the methodologies being utilized by law enforcement, financial institutions, and private organizations and attempt to determine what tactics are effective. More importantly, the panel will also examine those tactics which are not properly addressing the problem. The "1028A Program", an identity theft reduction initiative orchestrated by the US Secret Service identity theft task force in San Antonio, Texas, will also be discussed during this session.
