OSHA 1910.146, ASSE Z117.1 and 1926 Subpart AA provide minimum performance-based requirements for entering confined spaces. Performance-based standards focus primarily on the desired outcome – preventing injuries and fatalities in confined spaces. However, they sometimes lack sufficient guidance on how to reach that desired outcome. The NFPA 350 Guide for Safe Confined Space Entry and Work fills the void, providing many of the how-to’s that will help employers comply with performance-based standards. This session will explore how the guide simplifies terminology, fills in gaps in safety, and provides detailed requirements on topics such as selection and calibration of gas monitors and ventilation of confined spaces.
