Due to their size, high-rise buildings inherently present challenges to both the occupants and first responders in the event of a fire emergency. To help mitigate these challenges, high-rise buildings are required to be provided with specific fire protection systems. This presentation will discuss the definition of a high-rise building, the code and standard requirements applicable to high-rises, the required water-based fire protection systems and equipment, and the system design and installation requirements that the designer of record needs to consider to provide a design that meets the code requirements while being integrated with the building’s architecture and other support systems.
