Michael Annis, a partner with Husch Blackwell, offers guidance on litigation risks if claims of false advertising arise and how to best protect against claims being initiated in the first instance. During the last few years, there has been a steady proliferation of lawsuits challenging marketing and labeling practices of pet food products, with the majority relating to usage of trigger terms like natural, wholesome or healthy. Amid heightened consumer activism and growing interest from the plaintiff's bar, pet food labeling presents significant risks that have not been adequately explored. Annis will also address industry vulnerabilities and offer a look ahead to future labeling issues.
