PS101 | Coding: Why Should I Care? (Room Booth 2303)

500,000 current openings in computing jobs. #1 source of new wages in the United States. Projected growth -- twice the rates of all other jobs. Potential future wages 40% more than college average (Code.org). While Bill Gates, Tim Cook, and other technology CEOs push for schools to help supply them with future workers, why should educators really care about coding? What benefits does incorporating coding into Pk-12 content area classrooms offer to developing the whole child -- emotionally, academically, cognitively? Participants in this poster session will explore the answer to these questions through hands-on engagement with coding tools appropriate for PK-12 students such as Cubetto, Sphero, Scratch and Scratch Jr., and Apple's Swift Playgrounds.
