Construction SuperConference 2017

E27 Construction Fraud: Hot Topics and Prevention Strategies - ABA (Room Chopin 1)

The multiple parties, diffuse responsibilities, and numerous cost inputs associated with construction projects can create a ripe environment for fraud.  In this time of increased focus on government spending, internal efforts to detect and minimize the risk of fraud are more important than ever.  Our panelists will identify common fraud schemes and key laws used to prosecute them, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the False Claims Act, and bribery/graft laws.  This program will also educate attendees on the importance of having an effective compliance program to mitigate the risk of fraud, and on best practices for creating and maintaining a culture of compliance.

Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify areas of fraud vulnerability in construction projects.
  • Understand trends in recent prosecutions and settlements.
  • Understand how to mitigate the risk of fraud relating to construction projects.
