Polysulfide elastomers for use in flexible and stretchable electronics

Wearable technologies such as activity trackers, smartwatches and countless other novel form factors have allowed for electronic devices with more biological form factors. To aid in this electronics revolution, Ares Materials has developed a new product based on our Pylux family of polysulfide thermosets: Pylux-S stretchable substrates. These monolithic materials are engineered to develop anisotropic strain spatially (strain ratios of up to 1000-to-1 between the soft and stiff sections) based on photolithographically-compatible patterning techniques. In this talk, we explore the advantages of Pylux-S compared to the state-of-the-art strain isolation techniques. Additionally, we will demonstrate Pylux-S materials in case studies for strain-isolation of strain insensitive devices (e.g. LED arrays) connected via stretchable interconnects and potential applications in strain isolation of other stretchable and flexible electronic systems.
