Tracks: Future of EdTech Special Education

Teachers will discuss how to design develop meaningful STEM lessons that positively impact all students including students with special needs. Presenters will share strategies specifically used with students in separate special needs classes that are significantly delayed when compared to same aged peers. General education teachers will discuss how to create classroom environments in which students welcome all learners and value all members input and participation. Presenters will share and demonstrate how special education students team with general education students to participate in real-world, inquiry-based projects. Our students take STEM projects to the next level by creating a farm-to-sale business. Students learn about and care for chickens on our campus-based farm. Students are creating business plans using a wide variety of technology and software to evaluate best ways to advertise, market, keep records, and fulfill other business associated needs. Students conduct web-based research specific breeds of chickens to meet consumer needs and marketing strategies. Our students are developing an in-depth knowledge of how to utilize technology tools to solve meaningful real-life problems, all while building relationships based on mutual respect and cooperation. Edgewater Public is creating the entrepreneurs of the future. Presenters will lead session participants through lesson planning process and mini hands-on STEM activity.
