R- Factor Control Using Advanced Data Analytics at New Bar Mill (Room Virtual)

R-Factor is an important parameter to control the rolling process. This is the ratio of a cross-sectional area of input stock to output stock. Its control in a continuous mill determines the speed of adjacent mill stands, thereby achieving a constant mass flow through the mill; otherwise high tension or loop can cause cobble. To eliminate this cobble, an artificial intelligence-based model has been developed that predicts the optimal cluster of parameters for mill setup based on past data analysis of R-factors and prescribes the most optimal range based on roll pass tonnage. This methodology is very successful in predicting and eliminating cobble.
