Toward a Lime Magnetite Pellets-Based Feedstock for Ironmaking (Room Virtual)

Lime magnetite pellets (LMPs) have previously been reported as a potentially novel feedstock for lower-carbon-footprint blast furnace (BF) and shaft direct reduced iron (DRI) ironmaking operations. In this paper, the authors use a combined theoretical and experimental approach to analyze the technical issues and economic feasibility of commercializing the LMP process. The issues and opportunities associated with the subsequent use of LMPs in BF or DRI plants as a substitute for existing iron ore pellets and sinters are presented. The economic constraints of implementing the LMP process are also discussed.
