Lubrication & Hydraulics
The lubrication of the work rolls bearings highly influences the rolling mill performance. These work rolls bearings are subjected to high loads and high temperature along with high amount of water ingresses in the grease and bearings. The lack of grease within bearing affects the bearing life due to lubricant starvation and corrosion damage. A poor grease selection for work rolls bearings accelerates bearing damage, lowers bearing life, bearings and increases grease consumption.
In this study, we will discuss grease selection for the work rolls. The following grease performance attributes were included in this investigation, including: load carrying capacity, wear protection, water resistance, corrosion resistance, thermal stability and bearing performance. These properties are crucial for service life of the bearings and are very much dependent on the grease formulation.
