Briquetting and Sintering - Competition or Synergy? (Room 201 A)

29 Jun 21
9:30 AM - 10:00 AM

Tracks: Ironmaking: Raw Materials

The traditional sintering technology and the emerging technology of forming extruded briquettes (BREX) by stiff extrusion for preparation of raw materials for blast furnaces (BF) are compared, based on the results of scientific research and of the construction/commissioning of industrial lines. The presentation provides an analysis of energy efficiency and of the environmental impact. Looking at both technical and economic indicators, it shows the stiff extrusion technology to be quite competitive with the traditional method of agglomeration – sintering – and qualifies it as best available technology. The promising options for synergy between the two technologies are described.
